The Beginning
Sewing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Inspired by my grandmother and bonus grandmother, I learned to sew at a young age. They nurtured my creativity and instilled in me a love for crafting. The first garment I ever made was a blouse, which sparked my journey into the world of sewing.
A pivotal moment came when I transformed a pretty blouse given to me by my aunt into a two-piece toddler outfit for my daughter, Sofia. This project reignited my passion and reminded me of the beauty in upcycling and breathing new life into cherished garments.
A New Beginning: Resilience Through Challenges
As Mends By Mendy started to take off, it became a lifeline for my daughter and me—a way to make ends meet while doing what I loved. From hemming pants to creating custom pieces, each project brought a sense of pride and purpose, and the positive response from the community gave me hope for a brighter future.
But then, the world changed. The pandemic hit, and like many others, my small business faced unexpected challenges. As face masks became a necessity, I turned my focus to making masks for essential workers and their families, determined to do my part. It was a way to give back to those on the frontlines while keeping Mends By Mendy alive. I poured my time and heart into every mask, ensuring they were crafted with care and comfort in mind.
However, as the demand grew, so did the strain on my resources. Supplies ran low, and eventually, I couldn’t keep up with the need. With no way to replenish my materials, I had to pause Mends By Mendy. It was a tough decision, but I knew that my family’s needs came first, and I focused on keeping us safe and healthy through those uncertain times.
A Path Forward: Building A Future Together
Fast forward to today—life has changed in so many beautiful ways. I’m now a mother to twins, and my significant other and I are raising our three children together. But with a growing family comes growing needs, and I’ve found myself looking for a way to bring Mends By Mendy back to life.
Relaunching Mends By Mendy means more than just re-opening a business. It’s a chance to provide extra income to support my family, allowing me to continue being a stay-at-home mother without having to place my twins in costly daycare or having my partner take on additional jobs. It’s about finding a balance between supporting my family and doing what I love, all while making a positive impact through my work.
